Review: The Time Traveler's Wife movie..

I went and saw the Time Traveler’s Wife last night with a bunch of ladies and I hated it. Out of the 6 of us, 3 had read the entire book, 1 was half way through and 2 of us had not read it. I did not read it. Out of the 6 of us? Not a ONE liked the movie. We all hated it. Everyone who read the book, loved the book and still hated the movie. Every time I picked up the book, I would just think, eh no. But I kept thinking that the previews for the film looked pretty good and I like Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana is cute, so sure. But I kept thinking, are you serious???

Eric Bana’s character is Henry, a man who is a time-traveler and Rachel McAdams’s character is Clare, the person Henry falls in love with and marries. Henry pretty much visited Clare her entire life and then they reconnect, fall in love and get married. Yadda yadda yadda… Okay, one of my biggest pet peeves with the movie was when Clare would keep saying she had no choice in falling in love with Henry, staying with Henry, marrying Henry and what not. Basically saying, she couldn’t control who she fell in love with. With to a certain extent, no she could not. But she KNEW what she was getting into and I think her character kept coming off as whiney and I wanted to smack her. (Still love Rachel McAdams).

Henry just did not come across as likeable either. He was a big jerk. A big needy jerk The only characters I ended up liking were Gomez and Alma.

So, I do not believe I will be picking up the book anytime soon.

Have you read The Time-Traveler’s Wife? What did you think? Have you seen the movie? Did you like it or hate it?

I read the book and loved it and I actually thought the movie was great. Considering how deep and complex the book is, they did a wonderful job putting it on screen.

I have heard, however, that most people who didn't read the book didn't like the movie very much.

I just edited the post and thought I'd comment that. Even the people who read the book, hated it. Not a single one of us liked it. Neither did the girls behind us.

I read the book and watched the movie this past week. I didn't love the movie, but I did like it. I thought they did as good of as job of making it into a movie as they could. I don't think anyone who hadn't read the book would like it because they didn't have the time to develop alot of the back story. Like you don't really get to see how often Henry came to visit Clare when she was a little girl. Which kind of gives you a better understanding of why she said she 'never had a choice'. We talked about that alot at my book club last week. I think you are so young & impressional when you are a child, so when this man keeps coming to you every year, multiple times a year, and then tells you he saw the future and you are his wife, it kind of takes away your free will to some extent...

Anyways, long winded comment! This is the 3rd book-to-big-screen movie that I've seen this summer & it was probably my least favorite but I still did like it...

I think the book is worth checking out though. You probably won't still think Gomez is such a great guy!!

I had really been wanting to see this movie but your review is not the first bad one I have read. I would like to read the book since it is getting much better reviews.
